Reconstruction of Raw Material Supply Chain, Penetration Rate of Bio-based Hydraulic Oil Nearly Doubles in Three Years

The raw material supply system of the door closer industry is centered on steel and hydraulic oil, and their market dynamics directly affect the product manufacturing cost and industrial competitiveness. Data in 2024 shows that steel cost accounts for 34%-38% of the total cost of door closers, and hydraulic oil accounts for 9%-12%. The price fluctuations and technological innovations of these two types of raw materials are promoting structural changes in the supply chain.
In terms of steel supply, China's crude steel output in 2024 is expected to reach 1.02 billion tons, among which special steels such as cold-rolled coils and alloy structural steels suitable for door closer manufacturing account for about 15%. Affected by the capacity replacement policy, the outdated steelmaking capacity is being eliminated at an accelerated pace. The proportion of short-process steelmaking is expected to increase from 21% in 2024 to 35% in 2027. The carbon footprint of special steel produced by the scrap electric arc furnace process can be reduced by 42%, which is in line with the requirements of carbon neutrality development. The regional supply pattern shows the characteristics of "north steel transported to the south". North China accounts for 42% of the national special steel production capacity, while the local supply rate of manufacturing clusters in the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta is only 31%. Logistics cost accounts for 6.8% of the total raw material procurement cost. The popularization of digital procurement platforms is gradually alleviating this contradiction. It is expected that by 2025, digital procurement can increase inventory turnover by 40% and reduce procurement costs by 5%-8%.
The transformation in the hydraulic oil field is even more significant, with bio-based hydraulic oil becoming the core direction of environmental protection upgrading. In the past three years, the annual growth rate of bio-based hydraulic oil production capacity has reached 27%, and its market penetration rate has increased from 8% in 2022 to 14% in 2025. The price premium has narrowed from 220% to 65%. The improvement in cost-effectiveness has promoted its wide application in mid-to-high-end products. This new type of hydraulic oil not only reduces the carbon footprint by 38% but also has a longer service life. When used with nano-composite sealing materials, it can reduce the leakage rate of door closers from the industry average of 3‰ to below 0.5‰. At present, 32% of high-end synthetic ester hydraulic oil still relies on imports, but the process of localization substitution is accelerating. The localization rate of HM-grade hydraulic oil that meets the ISO 67434 standard has reached 58%.
